My Journey into Joinery: From Apprenticeship to Maxwell Property Services

Every business has a story, and mine began the moment I left school. I always knew I wanted to work with my hands, to build, and to create something that was truly my own. That drive led me to pursue joinery, a craft that has shaped both my career and my vision for the future.

Starting Out: Middlesbrough College and Family Influence

I went straight into joinery training at Middlesbrough College, where I gained my first qualification. At the same time, I worked alongside my dad, learning practical skills and gaining valuable real-world experience. That mix of classroom learning and hands-on work gave me a strong foundation and a hunger to push further.

From Apprentice to Young Business Owner

After my first year at college, I decided to take the apprenticeship route to gain proper on-site experience. Within just two months, I realised that while I loved the trade, I was destined for more than just life on site.

That’s when I took the leap and, with my partner, launched my first business: In & Out Property Services. We worked hard, and to our surprise — and delight — the business quickly took off. At such a young age, we were earning as much as, if not more than, the joiners on our site. It opened my eyes to what was possible and confirmed that I didn’t just want to work in the trade — I wanted to build something bigger.

Choosing My Own Path

After just under two years, my partner and I made the mutual decision to split and go our separate ways. For me, it was about stepping into my own vision and building something I could grow for the long term. That’s when Maxwell Property Services was born.

Big Dreams for the Future

Today, Maxwell Property Services provides joinery, exterior cleaning, fencing, painting, landscaping, and more. But this is just the beginning. My dream is to grow Maxwell into one of the most trusted property service providers in the UK and, eventually, to expand into property investment.

What started as a young joiner’s apprenticeship has grown into a passion for business, property, and creating opportunities for the future. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s given me the drive and determination to keep pushing forward.
